STRENGTHENING JUDAISM BY STRENGTHENING MARRIAGE

Shalom Bayit LA is committed to strengthening Judaism by strengthening individual marriages in the Jewish community.

With the modern divorce rate hovering around 50%, there must be something wrong with the current "conventional wisdom" about how to approach marriage.  In fact, the media (movies, TV, literature, etc.) depict love as a feeling that somewhat magically comes over us, and--just as magically--can simply disappear.  This idea would tell us that successful and fulfilling marriage is not in our direct control.

In fact, a successful and fulfilling marriage is within our control.  Modern psychological and behavioral sciences, as well as age-old Torah wisdom, support the idea that both love and successful marriages are the result of hard work, concerted effort, and an understanding of how to manage conflict and face challenges constructively.

Shalom Bayit LA brings authors and other speakers into the community, organizes LA-area events using the New York-based S.H.A.L.O.M. Workshop program, and distributes literature.  We are committed to the idea that strong marriages do not just happen; they are built through effort.
